Romaji to Kana
converter & translator.

Type romaji and watch it become hiragana or katakana as you type — or paste kana to get romaji back. Built on the same mora engine as the Kanapow app, so double consonants, long vowels, and ん all come out right.

Converter FAQ

How do I convert romaji to hiragana?

Type the romaji (for example, konnichiwa) into the box and the hiragana appears instantly: こんにちは. Switch the mode to katakana for loanwords, or to romaji to convert the other way.

Does this convert romaji to katakana too?

Yes. Choose the To katakana mode and type romaji to get katakana, which is used for foreign words and names — such as terebi → テレビ.

How are double consonants and long vowels handled?

Double consonants become a small tsu (kippu → きっぷ) and an "n" before a consonant or at the end becomes ん. The converter uses the same romanization rules as the Kanapow app, so the output matches what you'd see in a real reading.

Want the meaning, not just the kana?

This converter handles spelling between scripts. To turn an English word into Japanese with a mora-by-mora breakdown and tap-to-hear audio, grab the Kanapow app.
